After blast, Pune Police reassures students of safety

Pune: If on one side the Pune Police is trying to crack the German Bakery blast on the other, it is trying to reach out to a city that a week on is still coming to terms with its first ever terror attack.

The Pune Police has started an outreach program to turn the city's citizens into its eyes and ears.

The Police Commissioner of Pune is reaching out to the over 4 lakh students in the city, in an attempt to increase awareness on terror among the city's largest floating population.

The Commissioner and the top officers of the force are doing the rounds of the city's colleges hoping to put the shock from the German Bakery blast to some positive use.

Satyapal Singh, Pune Police Commissioner says, "We want them to be alert all the time and inform us if they find anyone suspicious. It's a big group that we want to take along."

Just in the last three days, top cops have met with over 45,000 students from 70 colleges across the city.

Their message seems to be getting through.

"Yes, after hearing the Commissioner we feel that we could also be of help."

"Indeed we will be more alert now and will help the police. It's everyone's responsibility."

After colleges, the police will turn its attention to the IT sector, a potential terror target, all in the hope that Pune, will pay heed and join the watch against another terror attack.
