Shubh Mangal Saavdhan marks Ayushmann Khurrana's second collaboration with Bhumi Pednekar. They have previously worked together in 2015 movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote that Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is 'a cockeyed take on a problem that is no laughing matter.'

"Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is worthy of applause for the way it breaks the patriarchal notions of masculinity that have been perpetuated ad infinitum by the popular strain of Indian cinema that has been built around a mard who feels no dard. Here the hero's anguish and bewilderment are real and his frailties, physical and emotional, aren't blamed upon anybody else but himself. It is he who's got to sort it out in the mind and the body, with, of course, a great deal of help from the woman in his life," wrote Mr Chatterjee.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is a remake of 2013 Tamil movie Kalyana Samayal Saadham. In the film, Ayushmann Khurrana features as a Gurgaon-based sales manager Mudit, who is dealing with a 'gent's problem.'

In a recent interview with news agency IANS, the 32-year-old actor spoke about his character in the film and said that portraying the role of a man with erectile dysfunction was an 'interesting process.'

"Men feel uncomfortable to talk or deal with such problem because of the mental conditioning. When it comes to boys' talk, they proudly talk about how many girls they are dating at the same time, how many times are they doing the act, etc. They find pride in it because we are living in a particular society," IANS quoted Ayushmann as saying.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan clashed at the box office with Baadshaho, starring Ajay Devgn, Ileana D'Cruz, Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Esha Gupta and Sanjay Mishra.
