2 Police Cases Registered In Connection With JNU Scuffle: Police

New Delhi: Two police cases have been registered in connection with the attacks on journalists, students and teachers of JNU at the Patiala House court on Monday where JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar was brought for hearing.

"The FIRs have been registered against unnamed persons under relevant Sections of the IPC," DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal said, adding, police registered both case taking suo motu cognisance of the entire episode.

Several complaints were received by the police at the three different police stations in New Delhi district.

While the first case specifically relates to the scuffle that took place inside the premises of the court, the second was registered for the scuffle between BJP MLA OP Sharma and CPI activist Ameeque Jamai outside Gate no. 2 of the court.

In both the cases, the complainant technically happen to be police officials.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had, on Monday, said that the allegations and counter allegations with regard to all the complaints have been received in connection with the entire episode. He further said that both sides of the issue are to be probed before any legal action is initiated.

Violence broke out in the court complex when groups of lawyers today thrashed journalists, students and teachers of JNU drawing condemnation from several quarters.

Mr Bassi described the incidents in the court complex as a scuffle and said no major injuries have been reported.
