Hyderabad:
A 12-year-old student died and 24 others were hospitalised allegedly after lunch at a residential school, which did not shift the ailing children to hospital, police said.
N Bapan Reddy, a class VII student at a private residential school in Prakasam district, along with 24 other students fell ill after having lunch, which was allegedly stale.
Soon after eating it, the students developed stomachache, vomiting and diarrhoea, an investigating officer told PTI over phone.
Police said, the school authorities, however, did not hospitalise the students. "Prima facie it seems the school authorities failed to shift the students to hospital though their condition deteriorated the whole night," a police officer said.
Bapan died in the wee hours on the school premises.
Alarmed by the 12-year-old's death, locals alerted the police, which then shifted the ailing students to hospital.
