Mumbai: 3-year-old kidnapped, police suspect family feud

Mumbai: The spate of child kidnaps in the city just doesn't seem to end: Now a three-year-old boy who was playing near his residence in Indira Nagar, Ghatkopar, went missing on October 23.

Initially, police registered a missing complaint, since they suspected that the kid must have wrongly strayed into some nearby locality. But after investigation, they concluded that the child has been kidnapped.

According to police, Aditya, the only son of the Gavde family, was playing outside. It was only after a period of 10-15 minutes, that the child's mother Lalita, came looking for Aditya, but he was not to be seen anywhere.

In her statement to police, Lalita said that Aditya would go out to play and he also knew the roads very well. The family has been staying in Indira Nagar for the past 15 years.

A senior police officer said, "We questioned many people from the locality and found an eyewitness who said that he had seen Aditya going with a person in his mid-fifties. We have drawn his sketch on the basis of details provided by the eyewitness, and have launched a manhunt to nab him".

Though the family hasn't received any calls demanding ransom money, however, police is trying to find out if there is any past family feud that is behind this kidnap.

Police has picked up several people for questioning. The news of Aditya's kidnap has spread in the locality like a wildfire and residents are living under fear. People have stopped letting their children play outside the house, and even if the child is sent, it is accompanied with elders.

On September 21, a three-year-old boy from the nearby Kamani locality had gone missing.

Subsequently, the boy's body, with his throat slit, was found in a cabin near Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena's office at Sunderbaug lane. The dead child was identified as Rohit Ramesh Singh.

A Crime Branch officer said, "More than hundred people have been questioned. Investigations are on."
