Major Dependra Bhushan is now in custody for allegedly taking bribe from a man who wanted a job in the Army. On Sunday he was remanded to police custody till June 24.

The Major, an Army doctor posted at the Army recruitment office in Colaba, was caught taking Rs 10,000 to issue a medical certificate.

The CBI claims an aspirant for the post of Solider in the technical department was approached by Bhushan, even the bribe amount was settled. But the job seeker approached the CBI and a trap was laid on Saturday when the money was to be given.

CBI sources say, his conversation was recorded on a hidden camera and the Major is seen saying the following:

Job Seeker: How much cash should I get?
Major: Bring as much as you wish.
Job Seeker: Is five enough?
Major: No, get Rs 10,000. At 5 pm come to CST. My man will collect the money from you.
Major's Driver: I have been sent by Doctor sahib. My name is Bharat Oram, I am his driver. I take care of everything. There are CCTVs installed outside Dr Bhushan's residence and therefore no one can visit him. Sahib is on a big post and a lot of people keep a watch on him. So, a day before the aspirants have to give their medical tests, we prepare a list and calculate our cuts.

This, the CBI says is concrete evidence against Major Bhushan but the Major claims he's innocent.

"I am innocent, haven't done anything wrong," said Major Dependra Bhushan.

Bhushan was also on the radar of the Military Intelligence for taking gratifications from aspirants. The CBI claims that Bhushan was backed by other officers in the Army and that custody will help them get more information on his associates.
