Chhattisgarh attack: Is there a lack of clarity on Maoist policy?
It is a familiar pattern. Every attack followed by more forces. The anti-Naxal policy followed by the Centre has shown little imagination or innovation. After every attack, the Centre has reacted with predictable regularity: send in more central forces.

Chief Minister Raman Singh to NDTV:

We admit that there were lapses in security. I cannot pinpoint at this point whose fault it was. A probe into the security lapses will be conducted, and the guilty will be punished.

The attack by Naxals is condemnable and very shameful. We are all very upset and angry. Mahendra Karma was a very experienced leader. We all went to him for any help regarding the Naxals. He was attacked earlier too but he was very brave.

All the leaders in the rally were aware somewhere or the other about the dangers of that area. The route is very sensitive. A lot of Naxal movement takes place there. Because there were al ot of leaders in the rally, it became a soft target for the Naxals.

Out of ammunition, and crushed under the car, the 41-year-old shouted out to VC Shukla, who sat in the car, "Sir, I have not been able to protect you. I take your leave." He then shot himself.
