Rs 5 crore assets seized from government official

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta on Thursday unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 5 crore during a raid on the house of a sub-engineer of the public works department in Mandsaur district, officials said on Thursday.

A 12-member team of Lokayukta office started the raid at the house of Shiv Prasad Patel early Thursday morning.

The raid, which continued till the evening, led to the recovery of assets worth over Rs.5 crore and land and property documents, investment documents of Patel and his family members.

The officials also seized Rs.5 lakh in cash, documents of two housing plots, one each in Mandsaur and Indore districts, 30 acres land in Changli area of Mandsaur, ornaments worth several lakh rupees and details of many bank accounts and lockers.

"So far more than Rs 5 crore assets have been found in the raid. As bank accounts and lockers are being opened, some more recoveries are likely," said Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta's Deputy Superintendent of Police O.P. Sagoria.

The recovery came close to a raid earlier his month by Lokayukta police on an Ujjain Municipal Corporation peon who was found owning assets worth around Rs 12 crore.
