New Delhi: With just four days to go for elections in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in North Delhi's Rohini. Following are the highlights of his speech:
- When we were campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, people used to ask who knows Modi outside Gujarat
- But Delhi has showered me with such affection that it elected all seven BJP MPs
- When people discuss India the world over, when the world is looking at India, it looks at Delhi first
- People get to know India through Delhi
- Delhi should be governed by those with experience
- Delhi needs development and change... it is the country's responsibility of how its capital should be
- Your dreams are my dreams... your hopes and expectations are my responsibility
- Congress has wasted Delhi's 15 years. They are an old party, large party so they were more wasteful. Then the temporary party came - they were smaller, new so they couldn't waste 15 years but wasted one year
- It is our responsibility to set right all that has gone wrong in the past 16 years.
- Our critics do not have many issues. This time the media is not focussing on the Mother and Son campaigning either.
- No one is prepared to listen to them... and they keep harping - Modiji, tell us what you've done about inflation? (referring to Congress)
- Those who ask us about price rise, can I ask you- in January 2014 what was price of gas cylinder & what is price in January 2015.
- If there was one government that was successful in curbing prices, it was the government of Morarji Bhai's, where Atal ji and Advani ji were also ministers.
- How were we painted did you see - that we are dacoits, thieves, corrupts, then we saw the double standards of the people accusing us. (referring to Arvind Kejriwal's AAP)
- We have decided via the PM's 'Jan Dhan Yojana' we will help Dalits and Adivasis. No middleman will be able to get the benefits due to them - we have made bank accounts for them where the money is sent directly.
We want to create permanent houses where there are slum clusters.
We have to turn this generator capital into power generation capital
In the power sectors, we go not by promises but by plans.
We care for the poor and the villages. And please, do not give me lessons on poverty. I have seen what poverty is from birth.
Those who knew about the people who have Swiss Bank accounts, kept names in their pockets say we don't know who gave us the money. (referring to AAP's claim of list of black money holders)
Elect a stable Government. Make a BJP government under the leadership of Kiran Bedi.
