Will remember Sachin Tendulkar for his commitment to the game: Sourav Ganguly

Met Sachin Tendulkar at an under-15 camp. He had all the shots in the book and his hunger for cricket was striking. Not just the talent he was born with, but what he did with the talent. Sachin will continue to be involved with the game. He can be involved with talent in India.

I saw him (Sachin) playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I feel that this player is playing much the same as I used to play, and she looked at him on television and said yes, there is a similarity between the two... his compactness, technique, stroke production... it all seemed to gel.

Now whoever is going to bat at No 4 for India is going to be under so much pressure.

His schoolboy-like enthusiasm for the game is something I envy and admire. For the team he is the best available coaching manual.

What he has done is set a benchmark for future generations which, probably, would be almost impossible for anyone to emulate.

I am fortunate that I've to bowl at him only in the nets.

It is big news. When I got to know this I couldn't believe it. Nobody has never played this much cricket and will never be able to. I hope that he remains in touch with the World of cricket.

He has been a genius when it comes to ability, a Trojan when it comes to work ethic and manic when it comes to his focus.

It is a surprising thing. We didn't expect that he will take this decision so fast. It is not a question of BCCI saying to Sachin, it is his own decision. We should honour and accept this decision. We should not doubt Sachin's decision. His retirement decision is a surprise. I don't think he can be a coach, but he can be a mentor for sure.

I remember Sunil Gavaskar telling me about a 14-year-old boy who will be the future of Indian cricket. He scored a century on his Ranji debut. He has converged himself as a One-Day opener. His extraordinary performance will never be seen by anyone after his retirement.

He is the most successful cricketer of India. He created a new milestone for every cricketer in the world, broke every record. The India team will miss him a lot after his retirement.
