Will remember Sachin Tendulkar for his commitment to the game: Sourav Ganguly
Sachin Tendulkar has announced his retirement from Test cricket. His statement to the BCCI said, "I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day."
Here are some of the reactions

  • Met Sachin Tendulkar at an under-15 camp. He had all the shots in the book and his hunger for cricket was striking. Not just the talent he was born with, but what he did with the talent. Sachin will continue to be involved with the game. He can be involved with talent in India.
Sourav Ganguly, former captain, Indian national cricket team 10/10/2013
  • I saw him (Sachin) playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I feel that this player is playing much the same as I used to play, and she looked at him on television and said yes, there is a similarity between the two... his compactness, technique, stroke production... it all seemed to gel.
    Donald Bradman, former Australian cricketer
  • Now whoever is going to bat at No 4 for India is going to be under so much pressure.
Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian cricketer 10/10/2013
  • His schoolboy-like enthusiasm for the game is something I envy and admire. For the team he is the best available coaching manual.
MS Dhoni, captain, Indian national cricket team 10/10/2013
  • What he has done is set a benchmark for future generations which, probably, would be almost impossible for anyone to emulate.
Rahul Dravid, former national cricketer 10/10/2013
  • I am fortunate that I've to bowl at him only in the nets.
Anil Kumble, former cricketer and spin bowler 10/10/2013
  • It is big news. When I got to know this I couldn't believe it. Nobody has never played this much cricket and will never be able to. I hope that he remains in touch with the World of cricket.
    Irfan Pathan, Indian cricketer 10/10/2013
  • He has been a genius when it comes to ability, a Trojan when it comes to work ethic and manic when it comes to his focus.
Vivian Richards, former West Indian cricketer 10/10/2013
  • Sachin is a genius. I'm a mere mortal.
Brian Lara, former West Indian international cricket player 10/10/2013
  • Sachin Tendulkar is, in my time, the best player without a doubt -- daylight second, Brian Lara third.
Shane Warne, former Australian cricketer 10/10/2013
  • There are two kind of batsmen in the world. One, Sachin Tendulkar. Two, all the others.
Andy Flower, former Zimbabwe cricketer and coach of England cricket team 10/10/2013
  • We wish Sachin Tendulkar all the very best for his retirement. He has been an inspiration for the youth. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs look forward to working with him to inspire youngsters for sports.
    Jitendra Singh, Sports Minister 10/10/2013
  • I have been an ardent follower and admirer of Sachin Tendulkar from the days he came to play Buchi Babu in Chennai. He is without doubt the greatest cricketer India has produced. In fact one should really say he ranks among the top of all time great sports persons in the world.
    N Srinivasan, BCCI chief 10/10/2013
  • No words to express the emotion. Feel an emptiness. thank you for sharing your journey with millions of fans.
Sundar Raman, CEO, Indian Premier League 10/10/2013
  • It is a surprising thing. We didn't expect that he will take this decision so fast. It is not a question of BCCI saying to Sachin, it is his own decision. We should honour and accept this decision. We should not doubt Sachin's decision. His retirement decision is a surprise. I don't think he can be a coach, but he can be a mentor for sure.
    Ravi Sawant, MCA president 10/10/2013
  • I remember Sunil Gavaskar telling me about a 14-year-old boy who will be the future of Indian cricket. He scored a century on his Ranji debut. He has converged himself as a One-Day opener. His extraordinary performance will never be seen by anyone after his retirement.
    Shashi Tharoor, Congress leader 10/10/2013
  • He is the most successful cricketer of India. He created a new milestone for every cricketer in the world, broke every record. The India team will miss him a lot after his retirement.
    Gopinath Munde, BJP leader 10/10/2013
  • I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing us to breathe the same air as you do.
Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood actor 10/10/2013
  • I am a sanyasi myself. By taking sanyas from cricket he has lived up to our tradition. He has brought glory to the nation overseas. He is an ideal youth icon. He has never advertised drugs, never advertised for tobacco and alcohol.
