Telangana crisis: Government to rope in NTPC, Power Grid to provide electricity to Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: The government is planning to rope in National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Power Grid Corporation to provide electricity to Andhra Pradesh where large parts are reeling under darkness due to protests and strikes against the Union Cabinet's decision to create a separate Telangana.

"We are doing something. NTPC and Power Grid will provide electricity to Andhra Pradesh," Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told reporters when asked about government's plan to restore electricity in Seemandhra region in Andhra Pradesh.

Seemandhra region has been witnessing massive protests following the October 3 decision of the Union Cabinet.

Power generation has remained crippled at major power stations, including the Vijayawada thermal power station and the Rayalaseema thermal power station, forcing authorities to impose power cuts ranging between three and ten hours.
