Tamil Nadu government allots Rs 287 crore for irrigation facilities

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has allocated Rs 287.20 crore for upgrading and maintaining water bodies across the state.

Retaining walls in Cauvery and its tributaries would be constructed to ensure adequate water for irrigation purposes in the delta region, a state government release said today.

A sum of Rs 67.68 crore has been allocated for constructing 25 irrigation facilities including 14 check dams in Thanjavur district, while Rs 108 crore has been earmarked for such facilites in Perambalur district, it said.

While Rs 41 crore has been allotted for the second phase for maintenance work in Kalingarayan channel across Bhavani river, Rs 48 crore has been approved for constructing bridge in Ariyalur district, it said.

More such maintenance work of irrigation systems in Vellore and Tiruvarur districts are also covered in the new announcement.
