In an ordinary corner of Thailand, an ordinary young man makes time to help others he meets in any way he can, however slight. He shares his meal with a stray dog, helps a grumpy vendor wheel her cart of wares over a kerb and unfailingly empties his wallet into a little beggar girl's bowl marked 'for education.' Others look on, shaking their heads in mild exasperation. They think he's just wasting his time because what's he getting in return?
It's only when he's confronted by the beggar girl's empty spot only to discover that his money is really, actually putting her through school that we learn the lesson the film teaches. The riches the young man receives in return for his kindness are the sort that mere money can't buy - it is a wealth of emotion, happiness, loyalty, grace and friendship.
This Thai advertisement is so joyous and uplifting that it's easy to forget it's peddling something as grim as life insurance.
