After quiet morning, Narendra Modi headed to Delhi as BJP prepares to name him PM candidate

Narendra Modi is in Gandhinagar and will be home for most of the day meeting officials and clearing files.

Ahmedabad: Narendra Modi went about business as usual on Thursday, seemingly impervious to the deep tumult his likely nomination as the BJP's candidate for prime minister has caused in far-off Delhi.

Sources say Mr Modi is expected to arrive in Delhi this evening for the big announcement.

The Gujarat Chief Minister is one of the 12 members of the BJP's parliamentary party board that meets this evening to discuss Mr Modi's candidacy. An announcement is expected after the meeting. (Read: Narendra Modi-for-PM announcement likely today; Advani fireworks expected at 5 pm meeting)

Despite the seeming nonchalance, the 63-year-old has reportedly been tracking closely the developments in Delhi, where the BJP has been in a spin in deep contrast to the calm of Gandhinagar.

Party chief Rajnath Singh's day began early with multiple morning meetings as hectic efforts are made to convince leaders like LK Advani, once Mr Modi's mentor, and Sushma Swaraj to support naming Mr Modi presumptive PM for 2014.

Mr Advani has said he will attend the meeting today and vote against Mr Modi in a repeat of his public disapproval of Mr Modi's elevation as the BJP's election campaign chief in June this year.

On Thursday, senior leaders met Mr Advani repeatedly but failed to move him. They also met Ms Swaraj who has said she will reveal only in the evening who she will vote for. Murli Manohar Joshi, the other A-lister who has been against fronting the Gujarat Chief Minister, has reportedly promised to support a majority decision.
