Cold claims five lives in Uttar Pradesh, toll 10

Lucknow: Cold wave and fog swept across the plains of Uttar Pradesh claiming five more lives in different parts of the state.

Total number of deaths due to cold conditions in past three days touched ten on Monday.

Two people lost their lives in Bahraich district while one each was killed in Gonda, Kannauj and Farrukhabad since Sunday.

Maximum temperatures were below normal by 5 to 13 degree Celsius in parts of the state, meteorological department said.

Night temperatures were below normal in Meerut and Moradabad divisions, while Muzaffarnagar continued to be coldest with a minimum temperature of 2 deg C.

There is no relief expected during the next 24 hour with Met sources forecasting that weather would be dry over the state and fog would occur in many parts of the state till Monday afternoon.

Keeping in view the cold wave like situation, local administration has ordered closure of schools in Lucknow and Barabanki and upto class VIII .

Two days back, three persons, including a woman, had died in Ballia district, one death each was reported from Maharajganj and Barabanki districts.
