A wave of deadly attacks rocked Pakistan, killing more than 40 people. The Taliban stormed three security facilities in Lahore and carried out two bombings in Peshawar and Kohat.
Among the targets was the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore, which is like India's CBI, other and police academies.
With five attacks in a single day, the Taliban has put Pakistan's security establishment on notice and demonstrated that they could strike the country's heartland at will.
Police said 18 people -- 13 security personnel and five civilians -- were killed in coordinated attacks on provincial headquarters of the FIA and two police training facilities in Punjab's capital Lahore by three groups of terrorists between 9.15 am and 9.40 am local time, the fifth terror strike in the country within 11 days.
Ten of the attackers were also gunned down by security forces or blew themselves up. One terrorist was captured alive from the FIA office.
In Kohat, a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a police station at 8.45 am local time, killing 11 people and injuring 22 others. Three policemen and several schoolchildren were among the dead.
In Peshawar, a child died and 10 people were injured when an explosives-laden car parked in a government residential colony was triggered by a remote control device, nearly a week after 52 civilians were killed when a suicide bomber blew up his vehicle in a crowded market in the city.
