Lonafdon: Top anti-EU campaigner Nigel Farage thanked everyone after the Britons decided in favour of Brexit, after voicing hope that the result "brings down" the European Union.

"I now dare to dream that the dawn is coming up on an independent United Kingdom," he said on Twitter, as early results from British regions showed the "Leave" vote in the lead.

"If the predictions now are right, this will be a victory for real people, a victory for ordinary people, a victory for decent people," he later told supporters at a Brexit party in Westminster.

The 'Leave' camp got nearly 17 million votes. Responding to that the leader tweeted:

"I hope this victory brings down this failed project and leads us to a Europe of sovereign nation states," he said to huge cheers at the party organised by the Leave.EU campaign.

"Let's get rid of the flag, the anthem, Brussels and all that has gone wrong... let June 23 go down in our history as our independence day.

"We have fought against the multinationals. We have fought against the big merchant banks. We fought against big politics," he said.

"We fought against lies, corruption and deceit, and today, honesty, decency and belief in nation I think now is going to win.

"We will have done it without having to fight, without a single bullet being fired. We'll have done it by damned hard work on the ground," he added.
