Baby dies in bath as woman played game on Facebook

New York: A 34-year-old mother in the U.S has admitted to leaving her baby in the bath to play a game on Facebook. She faces up to 43 years in jail after the boy drowned, said a media report.

Shannon Johnson from Fort Lupton has been charged with child abuse resulting in death, according to the 'Daily Mail' online.

In fact, after the boy died at a Denver-area hospital last September, Johnson allegedly admitted to police that she had placed the baby in the bath before she went into another room to play the Facebook game 'Cafe World', said the report.

A local court heard that Johnson told the police that she had checked in with her friends online and watched videos while the boy bathed alone.

When she didn't hear any sounds from the boy after 10 minutes, she found him slumped over face down in the bathwater making "gurgling" sounds. Johnson said she then called 911 and
the boy was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival from drowning, the report said.

Subsequently, when the police arrived at Johnson's home, they found a laptop opened to Facebook. Johnson requested a public defender during a brief hearing on Friday, and another hearing was set for later this month, said Jennifer Finch, a spokeswoman for the Weld County District Attorney's Office.
