Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan Mohan Reddy have now backtracked, says Digvijaya Singh on Telangana protests
New Delhi: The cabinet on Thursday cleared major steps for carving out a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.
  • Heartiest congratulations to people of Telangana. Your struggle has borne fruit.
    Sushma Swaraj, BJP leader
  • The Cabinet has pushed the decision in great haste without listening to the concerns of the people. I am deeply offended and aggrieved that we have not been able to articulate the grievances and anguish of the people for the cabinet to take note.In that spirit I had offered to resign but the PM asked me not to take a decision in haste. I have reconsidered and have decided to resign.
    Pallam Raju, Union Minister
  • As Congress General Secretary and as in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, I had discussed the issue of Telangana with all political parties. From Chandrababu Naidu to Jagan Mohan Reddy, all had given their approval. They are now backtracking.
    Digvijaya Singh, Congress General Secretary
  • This is a victory for the people of Telangana and the force of democracy. It is not a setback for the people of other region. I don't think formation of a different state should bother anybody to such a degree.
    S Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister
  • The way Congress party has dealt with the issue of bifurcation is condemnable. There is a clear cut match fixing. We are going to review all the things and take firm actions. Unfortunately they wanted to gain some political advantages for which they are destroying the Andhra State. You are not able to convince your own cabinet, how can you convince public?
    Chandrababu Naidu, TDP chief
  • Is it justifiable to split the state without any assembly resolution in place? What kind of democracy are we living in where intentionally people choose to ignore the importance of assembly resolution. I request the entire nation to stand up and fight against this injustice.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSR Congress chief
