Mornings at hotels could soon feel a lot more delicious. Instead of being jolted awake by loud alarms or phone calls, guests at select Holiday Inn Express hotels will soon rise to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, sizzling bacon or even mangoes. The international chain has introduced a new "Breakfast Alarm Clock" - a diffuser-style device that wakes guests up with the smell of breakfast, reported the New York Post.

A World-First Wake-Up Experience

This unique wake-up concept will debut across Holiday Inn Express hotels in Australia and New Zealand, along with select locations in Singapore, Thailand and Japan. Guests can choose their preferred scent - with options like Coffee, Bacon and Blueberry Muffin in Australia and New Zealand, Mango in Singapore and Thailand, and Nashi Pear in Japan.

A Delicious Alarm Inspired By Research

The idea of this scent-based alarm stems from a regional survey by Holiday Inn Express, which found that 58% of travellers in the Asia-Pacific region believe a pleasant smell helps them wake up feeling refreshed, especially when away from home. Scents such as coffee or tea (56%), baked goods (38%), fresh fruit (30%), and even bacon and eggs (43% in Australia) were among the most preferred morning aromas.

A Limited Time-Period Experiment

The breakfast scent-based alarm clock will be available for guests to try free of cost, beginning October 20, 2025, for a limited period. While the innovation may sound playful, it highlights how hotels are reimagining the traditional wake-up call to enhance guest experiences and also motivate them to head for breakfast.
