- The feature targets families, solo travelers, and couples on long-haul flights seeking extra comfort
Being able to lie flat and stretch out on a long-haul flight will no longer be a luxury reserved for business or first-class travellers on United Airlines. The carrier has announced plans to introduce the United Relax Row - a new economy seating concept that transforms an entire row into a couch.
United Airlines is the first carrier in North America to offer this feature, adding a new layer of comfort for travellers who want more room to stretch out without upgrading to premium cabins. The innovation is expected to make family travel, overnight flights and long journeys significantly more convenient within Economy.
What Is The United Relax Row?
The United Relax Row is a dedicated set of three economy seats designed to transform into a flat, couch-like surface. Each row will feature adjustable leg rests that lift to a 90-degree angle, allowing passengers to lie down, stretch or simply enjoy more personal space.
The airline says the concept is especially useful for families with young children, solo travellers seeking extra rest and couples who prefer additional room on long-haul routes.
United Airlines plans to launch the Relax Row in 2027.
The feature will be installed across more than 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. Up to 12 Relax Row sections will be available on each plane, positioned between United Economy and United Premium Plus.
Extra Amenities For Relax Row Travellers
Passengers booking a Relax Row seat will receive several added comforts as part of the experience. United plans to offer amenities such as a custom-fitted mattress pad, a specially sized blanket, two extra pillows, and a plush toy. Families will also receive a children's travel kit to help keep young flyers engaged during the journey.
Details on pricing, booking procedures and pet policies are expected to be announced closer to the official launch.
Early Traveller Reactions
The airline shared the announcement on X, drawing a wave of positive responses from travellers. Some expressed excitement about being able to nap through long flights, while others appreciated the push towards greater comfort in economy.
