- Viral clip sparks backlash, prompting creator to address the misunderstanding.
A travel influencer, who recently got slammed on the internet for using a hotel's coffee machine for cleaning underwear, has finally responded to the criticism. Recently, Tara Woodcox shared a video on her social media, reacting to the outrage that erupted after her earlier “travel hack” went viral. The original clip showed her demonstrating how a hotel coffee maker could supposedly be used to wash underwear, an idea that triggered widespread disgust and prompted many to rethink using in‑room appliances.

In her new video, Woodcox insists she never actually tried the hack herself. Calling the internet's reaction “insane,” she says the clip spiralled far beyond what she expected. “I have never actually done that but it's really funny,” she says at the beginning of the clarification, adding that people have been arguing in their DMs and sending her intense comments ever since the video resurfaced. She explains that the post was meant to highlight why she herself avoids using hotel coffee makers, not to encourage anyone to replicate the method.
Woodcox adds that she first heard about the hack from a friend, found it “eww,” and has always stayed away from hotel coffee machines because she doubts how well they are cleaned between guests. She jokingly admits she almost didn't want to reveal that the hack wasn't real, saying viewers seemed to be “having way too much fun thinking it's real.”
In the middle of the controversy, social media posts also began claiming that a hotel had slapped Woodcox with a $1 million lawsuit over the coffee‑maker incident. But these rumours were soon dismissed. IBTimes UK reported that there is no court filing, no docket entry and no official statement from any hotel chain supporting the claim, confirming that the lawsuit chatter was simply unverified speculation circulating online.

How The Internet Reacted To The Viral Video
Several people refused to believe that the travel influencer had not used this hack personally.
One user commented, “you told people to do something genuinely unsanitary. That's not comedy. that's reckless and gross. this feels like backtracking now that the engagement shifted. maybe just own it- this feels forced.”
Another user said, “Apparently guests are now requesting refunds and the hotel had to replace coffee makers. I wouldn't be laughing if you're damaging a business”
A third user commented, “You are now back-peddling because there's a multimillion dollar lawsuit against you from the hotel you stayed at”
“You're lying. You were not telling people this is why you shouldn't use the coffee pot. You were telling them to wash their underwear in the coffee pot. But good try,” wrote another user.
Several other users slammed the influencer for denying to use this hack herself.

What Happened In The Viral Coffee Maker Being Used To Wash Underwear Video
Woodcox first went viral after posting a clip to TikTok on November 9, 2025, instructing travellers on what to do if they ran out of clean underwear in a hotel room. In that video, she demonstrated how to place the garment where coffee grounds usually sit, close the lid and press brew so hot water passes through. She even suggested using a hair dryer to finish drying the underwear.
At the time, she said she learned the trick from a flight‑attendant friend and was surprised that “so many people already knew this.” The clip spread quickly, prompting many viewers to rethink using in‑room coffee makers altogether, and pushing the influencer to clarify her intent this week.
