In a serious concerning outbreak, the vector-borne disease Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has claimed eleven lives in Assam this year so far, according to the officials.

The toll due to Japanese Encephalitis in Assam rose to 38 after one more death was reported in the state due to the viral infection in the last 24 hours on Saturday.

Japanese Encephalitis claimed three more lives in Assam in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 35 and reported a total of 24 new cases of during the period.

Three more deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis were reported in Assam on Monday, taking the number to 30 in two weeks.

While the flood situation in Assam appears to improve, another outbreak in the state-- Japanese Encephalitis (JE)-- has claimed the lives of as many as 23 people since April this year.

Japanese Encephalitis and Malaria kill many people in Assam every year, specifically during the monsoon flood season which usually starts in May and stretches to October.
