Pinarayi verdict will strengthen LDF resolve to fight corruption: Kerala minister

CPM workers celebrate the CBI court verdict dismissing charges against party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan

Kozhikode: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member and former Kerala minister, today said the CBI special court verdict in the SNC Lavalin graft case would strengthen the LDF resolve to fight against corruption.

Speaking to mediapersons in Kozhikode, Mr Balakrishnan claimed that after the Lok Sabha elections, a change in governance would occur in Kerala.

"Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will not complete five-year term as some of the constituents in the UDF are not happy," he said.

"These constituents are not sure whether they would be taken into the LDF fold and that is why they are sticking to the UDF," he claimed.

"The verdict in the SNC Lavalin case is a strong warning for the Congress," he said.

UDF had been utilising the issue for the last several years and it had reached a high in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, he said. The "false" propaganda by UDF affected the LDF prospects slightly in the election, he said.

To a query, he said veteran CPI-M leader VS Achuthanandan had given strength to the party during a difficult situation.

Mr Balakrishnan is here as part of a rally, conducted by LDF demanding Mr Chandy's resignation over the solar scam.
