Coimbatore: Teenagers arrested with counterfeit notes

Coimbatore: Two teenagers, hailing from West Bengal, were taken into custody on Monday for reportedly possessing counterfeit notes, with a face value of Rs 13,000 in the market, near Mettupalayam.

Azhar and Jaffer Ali, both 19-year-olds and hailing from 24 Parganas District in West Bengal, paid Rs 1,000 after purchasing some sweets from a shop in Mettupalayam bus stand.

Growing suspicious over the note, the shop cashier informed police, on which both took to their heels.

However, police reached to the spot in time, chased them and managed to nab one and caught another from Annur, about 15 Kms from there, police said.

Police recovered eight notes in denominations of Rs 1,000 and six notes in denominations of Rs 500 from them. Interrogations are on to ascertain the source of supply, they said.
