Matt Kuleza, a student from Melbourne, is upto something extremely adventurous. Last month, he launched a blog project - 1000 Coffees - to make his Facebook friendships more meaningful.

All of his Facebook friends (at present 1088 of them) will be invited to catch up with him, one at a time, over a hot cuppa. The 28-year-old's last coffee date with a Facebook friend will be about three years from now. "I plan to have a one-on-one coffee with every single one of my 1000 Facebook 'friends' over the space of the next three years, or as long as it takes to complete," he wrote on his blog.

The motivating force behind this tedious task is his wish to marry the virtual world with the real. "An exercise in remembering to socialise with and get to know people outside of the 'book'," he says, answering the whys and wherefores of the project.

Matt's project will resonate with those who find themselves interacting with just a fraction of their friend list on Facebook. Matt is already a few cups of coffee down.

Coffee #1: He chose to have the first cup with his friend Kris Schroeder, who Matt first met in 2005 when their bands played together. "We caught up on life, world politics and recent travel, discussing his experiences in Kenya and mine in North Korea," Matt wrote on his blog.

He even included his best friend Jason Waterfalls AKA Nick Bourke AKA Bourkey in this endeavour to know people better and invited him to hang out even though they do so every week.

Coffee #5: "Bourkey drank a long black with two sugars and I had a strong flat white," Matt details on his blog.

Coffee #10: The tenth cup was with Juliana Park. Matt met her only in 2014 and  they have no mutual friends on Facebook. What did they talk about? "I was stressing out about an upcoming speaking test and Jules did an amazingly good deed and offered to help me practice my speaking. Outside of her own free time, for no reason, helping a total stranger with their studies. I was sold. Awesome person," he was all praises for this one.

Matt had his 26th cup yesterday but he has a long way to go before he can prove his point successfully and make others wake up and smell the coffee.
