Rahul Gandhi shuns five-star fare for tunde kebab
Lucknow: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi chose to feast on Lucknow's famed tunde kebabs instead of having dinner at the five-star Taj hotel on Monday night, party sources said.

Gandhi, who is to address the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Congress' student wing, on Tuesday was scheduled to go to the five star hotel at the upscale Gomti Nagar. However, he chose to eat tunde kebabs, flat minced meat kebabs cooked in little oil over slow fire.

The Congress general secretary is staying at the VVIP guest house in the city.

Mohd Usman, owner of 130-year old Tunde Kebabs, told IANS from Banglaore that Gandhi had indeed ordered the tunde kebabs at his guest house. "Initially, food was brought from the Taj, but he asked for the tunde kebabs and somebody was asked to get the food for him."

According to Usman, whenever Rahul Gandhi or his sister Priyanka Gandhi come to Amethi, they order food from his restaurant. "We are used to sending food to Amethi whenever Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka come there," he said.

A few months ago, Rahul Gandhi had walked into a popular eatery, Aryans, in downtown Hazratganj, and surprised the people there when he sat down among them and ordered a meal.

He interacted with students at Allahabad and Benares earlier in the day.
