Dry Skin Care Routine And Beauty Hacks For Healthy Skin In Winter

Those with dry skin must know these beauty tips to get healthy, glowing skin from within this winter.

1. Be Disciplined With Your Skin

So you start the week diligently moisturising and protecting your face but by the time it's the weekend, you've gotten too lazy to get past step 2. Healthy skin begins with discipline. No matter how short or long your routine is, it only works if you follow it to the t. Hastily slapping it on, not using ideal pressure or skipping steps won't yield results. What will however is a routine that works for you followed daily right down to the last step.

2. Seal It All In

Winter is like no other time of the year. Temperatures often drop to single digit degrees and moisture is zapped out of the air. When you have dry skin, locking in moisture is imperative hence facial oil should be essential in your routine. Follow your steps as per usual and as the final step, apply few drops of facial oil. This acts as a kind of lock which secures the remaining products on your skin and lets moisture stay inside without leaking out.

3. Choose Creamy Formulas

Adapt your dry skin care routine for the season. That means swapping products you'd otherwise use in summer and spring for something more. Most skin types require more hydration than usual in winter hence as a rule of thumb, opt for formulas that are thicker, richer and creamy. Even if you continue to use thin products like serum, layer with a face cream. Don't forget to swap your usual body lotion for rich body butters.

4. Eat Right

It's important to note that hydration also happens from within along with a good skin care routine. Hence while you continue to apply creams and moisturisers, keep drinking plenty of water and ensure healthy fats are a part of your diet.

5. Avoid Stripping Your Skin

While opting for richer formulations in winter, also ensure that you cut out products which have the tendency to strip the skin bare of its natural oils. Foaming face washes can dry out the skin and leave it feeling dry. Use non-foaming face cleansers to gently cleanse without stripping it. Face masks that are made to purify or detoxify the skin can also be worrisome. Instead opt for hydrating and moisturising sheet masks or overnight face masks which will give to the skin rather than take from it.

6. Buff Away Dead Skin

Dead skin can be a major problem in the winter months. The cold season can cause dead and dry skin to accumulate, making it appear dull and also lead to problems like itching and flaking. Especially over your hands and legs, ensure this doesn't happen by dry brushing or using exfoliating mitts. Even your lips can get chapped more often than usual in winter. Solve this by using a lip scrub weekly and keeping them hydrating with balm.
