Deepika Padukone wowed the red carpet at the Time 100 Gala with a crowd-pleasing namaste. But that, and her megawatt smile, wasn't enough to deflect attention from her outfit. Deepika picked a saree-gown by Anamika Khanna to wear and, being Deepika, looked like a million bucks in it - but her ensemble didn't pass muster with much of the Internet. More about that in a bit. There was, however, an actual saree worn at the Time 100 Gala. Rajalakshmi Aggarwal, wife of Ola co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal, stood out in a sea of high-octane ballgowns in a black and gold lace saree with a simple black blouse, strappy sandals and clutch and gold jewellery. Rajalakshmi Aggarwal matched her relatively simple look with low-key makeup and hair.
Bhavish Aggarwal is one of three Indians who made it to the Time's list of 100 Most Influential People of 2018, an annual and prestigious honour. Deepika Padukone and cricketer Virat Kohli are the other two. Virat, currently busy with the Indian Premier League or IPL back home, did not attend the Time 100 Gala, held last night in New York.
As for Deepika Padukone's look - folks were left underwhelmed. Not just by the saree-gown, but also by the severely-parted plastered down hairstyle that fans have repeatedly begged the actress to abandon. So even though Deepika looked like this - pretty great, that is - the Internet has been wrinkling its nose:
When it comes to fusion sarees, Anamika Khanna can usually be relied on to produce something special as she has done for Sonam Kapoor at the Cannes Film Festival.
Perhaps she was having an off day this time.
Indian-origin supermodel and TV personality Padma Lakshmi was also at the Time 100 Gala, wearing a red and pink custom gown by designer Christian Siriano, one of Time's 100 honorees.
Which of these looks did you like best? Tell us in the comments.
