Valak from The Conjuring is a popular costume for Halloween 2017

Halloween is here and how, my friends. Which can mean only one thing - it's time to bring out the fake blood, prosthetic melted skin and let your creativity soar. If you'd like to skip 2017's popular but kosher Halloween makeup favourites like Wonder Woman and Eleven, take a trip down the spooky side of town with terrifying inspiration from these 5 makeup bloggers.

1. The floral skull

We've seen the classic sugar skull costume time and again - so this one, that intermingles floral blooms and pastel tones is a spooky work of art in itself. Don't be fooled by its seemingly calm aura, it is a scary skeleton after all.

2. The terrifying clown

The release of the hit movie It saw the rise of clown costumes this year. Not the children's party performer clown - the scary one that appears from sewers and lures kids underneath. With a deathly stare and a terrifyingly clownish twist, we don't think we'll be sleeping tonight.

3. The floating head

A disjointed head floating separately from the body - what could be more horrifying than that! This spectacular yet shocking Halloween makeup look is one of the best optical illusions we've seen in a long time.

4. Valak

Of course we couldn't forget Valak from The Conjuring franchise. The demon disguised as a nun is pale as ice, dark as night and has intense yellow eyes that seem to stare into your very soul. Try this if you dare!

5. Joker's girl

We've always known Harley Quinn to be a spooky charmer but this version of the Joker's girl is a lot different. With wiry hair, smudged makeup and that gory grin, it gives a terrifying new look to an old favourite.
