Valentine's Day can be bad if you are single, and actually place value on this day. But the day can be much, much worse for you if you are nursing a broken heart. For one reason or the other you got out of a relationship that wasn't working out for you, and now you have to face a fake-holiday alone when you thought you were sorted with some plan or the other with your partner.

But instead of mulling over that these are the dos and don'ts to keep in mind.

1. Avoid social media by all means

Really, you don't need reminders for the day everywhere, nor do you need that kinda #FOMO. It will only end up making you wallow in self-pity.

2. Think of it as just another day

Here's an idea: how about not giving this day any more importance than it already has. Go about the day like just another day.

3. Actually consider staying holed up in your apartment

No really, maybe it is too much to ask of the Universe to not remind you what day it is everywhere you do. So maybe stay in and binge watch stuff online.

4. Call your friends

...and not your ex. Pick up the phone but only to talk to your mains - the friends who have stood by you through thick and thin. A good conversation and V-day hating together is bound to make you feel better.

5. Go for a date with yourself

I kid you not. Go for a walk in the park, go to the gym, go for a movie alone, and definitely consider going for a dinner by yourself. By the end of it you will feel so much more powerful for doing this when everyone around was in a couple.

6. Sleepover with a friend

What do you know? You will have someone by your side at the end of the day anyway. Someone more valuable than a boyfriend.

7. Go on a date - just a casual one

A harmless, no expectations, and playing by the ear kinda date... go. for. it. Maybe that guy who you thought was cute but didn't do anything about it because you were dating someone else. Or the guy who has been asking you out? Take a chance.

8. Act happy

If it's getting to you, pretend to be happy and it will actually help you keep it together.

9. Get some action

A few drinks, and some good sex. It is amazing how underrated this formula is. Trust you me.
