In a bid to get you expert advice, we got in touch with professional mehendi artists Komal Khot and Hansa Gajra. The two revealed that currently figures and floral designs are all things rage. It is advised to get a mix and match of both trends to get yourself a unique mehendi design for this Karwa Chauth. If you are someone who doesn't prefer Arabic designs but likes to cover the entire hand, you must try the idea of thick and thin design. Abiding by this you can take figures but also surround them with tiny floral designs. Also, make note of your hand size. All those who have thin hands must pick an intricate design, but if you have broad hands then you have the liberty of choosing big designs like bells. Before applying the mehendi, make sure that you have washed your hands properly. Needless to say, the longer you keep your mehendi the deeper its stains go. But make sure that you keep it overnight or at least 4-5 hours. Also, spray lemon sugar water on it and once you scrape it out apply petroleum jelly. Love minimalist artwork? The flora trend is what you need. Apart from being visually appealing, it screams regal. The best way to do so is to get a big rose or lotus in the centre and then fill your hands with intricate floral designs.
Mix and match
Why restrict yourself to just one trending design, when you can apply both? All you need to do is abide by the mix-and-match trend. This you can do by letting a figure of your choice take centre stage and then fill the remaining area with intricate floral patterns.
Bridal Mehendi
If this is your first Karwa Chauth, then you should be generous and rest your faith in bridal design. It may be a little heavy on your pocket but then the festive season calls for a bit of indulgence, so if you can afford to, feel free to dive right in. Don't be afraid of lengths and get a mix-and-match of it all either.
Partner's name
If you're one to keep it simple, then you can go the old-school route and make your artist write your partner's name crafted in a delicate font. You can even go the extra mile by getting your vows written on your hands in henna print. As tradition goes, ladies get initials, first names or full names of their partners hidden in the most intricate part of their mehendi design in an attempt to personalise their mehendi. What's more, they then ask their spouses to find their names to prove the intensity of their bond. Either way, using the name in the design is a sure bet.
