7 Homemade Protein-Rich Hair Masks To Try RN!
1. Egg-Yoghurt Mask
We all know that eggs are a rich source of proteins. It promotes hair growth but makes it shiny and smoot hair smooth too. On the other hand, yoghurt or curd is a great moisturiser for dull, frizzy hair, especially in the winter months. The combination of eggs and yoghurt will work wonders on your hair. Beat an egg into a bowl and add some yoghurt to it. Mix it well to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to your hair and scalp and let it settle for half an hour. Rinse the mask with cool water and follow it with shampooing.
2. Avocado-Coconut Mask
Coconut milk is a rich source of proteins and avocados on the other hand are rich in vitamins. The combination of the two would boost collagen production which would enhance hair growth. You can even add olive oil to the mask to condition it. Take a ripe avocado and mash it into a bowl. Add two tablespoons of coconut milk and one teaspoon of olive oil(optional) to it. Mix well to form a thick paste and apply it to the scalp and hair. Leave it for 30 minutes before washing it off with shampoo and conditioner.
3. Egg Yolk-Honey Mask
As we know, egg is a great source of proteins and applying the eggs to the hair directly supplies the required proteins to the hair. Honey conditions the hair and helps to seal in the moisture. You can even add almond oil to the mask which can give your strands the much needed nutrition because of its fatty acid content. Mix an egg yolk with one tablespoon of honey. Add a tablespoon of almond oil to it. Form a thick paste and apply it to your hair and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes, before you wash it off with lukewarm water.
4. Banana-Avocado Mask
Bananas are a rich source of potassium, natural oils, and vitamins which nourishes and strengthens the scalp. Avocados are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which can condition your hair to improve the hair's quality and texture. Mash a banana and a ripe avocado in a bowl to make a smooth paste. Add a tablespoon of your preferred hair oil to the paste and apply it to your hair and leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it away.
5. Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is packed with fatty acids and vitamins which not only conditions the hair but also fills up damaged protein requirements. Coconut milk treatment effectively tackles dandruff and promotes healthy growth. Take 3 to 4 spoons of coconut milk and heat it on low flame until its warm. We do not want it hot. Massage the coconut milk into your scalp and apply it from the roots to the ends. Wrap your hair in a towel and leave it for the night. Next morning shampoo and condition it.
6. Mayonnaise-Egg Mask
Mayonnaise and eggs both are rich sources of proteins and their combination would work wonders for dull-damaged hair. Combine an egg white and 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise to form a thick paste. Apply this paste to your hair and leave it for 30 to 40 minutes.. Avoid applying to the scalp if you have an oily scalp. Wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo.
7. Gelatin-Apple Cider Vinegar Mask
Gelatin contains the protein keratin which binds the hair and strengthens it. Take around 200 ml of water into a pan and sprinkle it with powdered gelatin. Keep whisking it to avoid forming any lumps. Allow the mixture to heat for 5 to 10 minutes. Let it cool for a while and add apple cider vinegar to it. Make sure the mixture has cooled down before applying it to the hair and let it settle. You can add coconut milk instead of water if your hair strands require moisture. To boost shine, you can add peppermint or rosemary in place of water.
