Seeing those extra kilos build up and the number on the weighing scale go higher can be super frustrating. Especially when you think you've been following all the rules and doing everything you need to do to lose a few inches. That might even be true, you might be going by the book and taking big steps to lose weight - but what if it's the small things that you're doing, or not doing, that are causing that weight gain after all? Here are a few things you might be doing unknowingly or knowingly that are causing you to gain weight rather than lose. Watch out.
1. You're not planning your meals
Which means, most likely, you end up eating what's available rather than what you should actually be eating. You may think eating a sandwich from your office cafeteria at lunch and a cup of coffee with some cookies later in the day are harmless - but unless you're counting your calories and taking the flexible dieting route, these things could be causing you to go way over your required calorie intake. Planning your meals a day ahead will save you a lot of hassle. Not only will you save yourself from spending money on buying food, but your gut will thank you too.
2. You're constantly sitting
We understand that you might have a desk job that requires you to sit in order to be efficient and get your day's work done. But it is most certainly not helping your weight loss programme in any way. Take a few breaks everyday to simply walk around your office space or just stand and stretch. Even if you're not doing anything vigorous, just a little bit of movement will help you burn more calories than sitting on a chair will.
3. You eat at your desk
You may think that eating your lunch at your desk is saving you time and helping you maximise productivity, but think about what it's doing for your body. Absolutely nothing beneficial. Your boss may thank you eventually for putting in work even during your lunch hour, but your waistline will most certainly not. Take a walk to your office cafeteria and spend lunch off from your devices, without any distractions. Eating while doing other things that require your attention simultaneously can cause you to eat more than you actually intend to. Your brain can take upto 20 minutes to register that you are full, but when you're multitasking, it could possibly take longer. So concentrate on your food and eat mindfully.
