The 23-year-old law student, who had accused former Union Minister Chinmayanand of rape, was released from jail on Wednesday. She was released on bail over two months after she was arrested on extortion charges.
"The girl has been handed over to her father after a release order from Chief Judicial Magistrate Omveer reached the jail. She was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on December 4," Jailor Rajesh Kumar Rai told PTI.
Chinmayanand, whose trust runs a law college in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur where the woman studied, was arrested after she accused him of rape. He continues to be in judicial custody.
The student and her three friends were arrested after a counter-complaint by Chinmayanand, alleging that they had demanded Rs 5 crore from him.
The former Union Minister had alleged that they had threatened to make public certain video clips that showed him receiving massage from the law student.
The woman has alleged that Chinmayanand, who runs several ashrams and educational institutions, sexually exploited her after helping her gain admission in his law college last year.
