Will quit SP if asked to: Jaya Bachchan

Mumbai: Calling the expulsion of Amar Singh as wrong which would hurt the party, Jaya Bachchan has said that she would quit the Samajwadi Party and Rajya Sabha if asked by it's president Mulayam Singh.

"If they want me to leave then they should ask," she said when asked whether she would quit the party. The Rajya Sabha member also said she was "sad and hurt" at the expulsion of Amar Singh and Jaya Prada.

"I am sad and hurt. This is a very wrong decision and would hurt the party in future," she said.

Bachchan, who was brought into Samajwadi party by Amar Singh, said that it was sad that Mulayam Singh has been bullied by people around him into taking action against Amar Singh.

"A lot of people have managed to bully Mulayam Singhji into taking this decision. Mulayam Singhji has great love and affection for Amar Singhji who was like a shield to his leader. I am worried and concerned that the shield has been removed," the actor-politician said.

Bachchan said she had interacted with Mulayam after Amar's resignation from part posts and added that the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was still her leader.

When asked about her continuance in the party after the exit of Amar Singh, Bachchan said that if the party feels she has done anything wrong, she would welcome any decision taken about her future in the party.

"Whatever decision has to come from the top. When I was asked to join the party and become the Rajya Sabha member, the decision came from Mulayam Singhji and Amar Singhji. I would expect the same if it was otherwise," she said.

To a question if she fears being cornered in the party after the expulsion of Amar Singh, she said, "I have lived in antagonism in Parliament from other parties for many years. Its no problem I can survive."

Bachchan said she was sad and hurt to see the separation between Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh. Politics was not important and personally they were very close, she said.

Bachchan said Amar Singh was a shield for Mulayam Singh and people around him have removed that shield. She said she would support the activities of Amar Singh in the filed of education which he has promised to do through his NGO.
