The town of Banda has remained among the hottest cities in the world for the past week, with temperature crossing 47 degrees Celsius.
The onset of monsoon on the mainland stands delayed. While an earlier prediction had set the date of monsoon arrival in Kerala on May 26, the new forecast pegs the same between June and 4 now.

Southwest Monsoon Further Advances In Arabian Sea: Weather Office
The monsoon has missed its expected onset date of May 26 in Kerala but has further advanced into some more parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
"Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, southwest, eastcentral and westcentral Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal during the next 2-3 days," the weather office said in a statement.

70,000 Vehicles Reach Shimla In 72 Hours Amid Delhi Heat Wave
Tourists are flocking to the key hill destinations in Himachal Pradesh to beat the scorching heat in the plains, with as many as 6,31,000 vehicles reaching Shimla in the past 24 days, including 70,000 in the last 72 hours, officials said.
Shimla is already choked with vehicles, leading to frequent traffic jams and prompting police to make a special appeal to tourists to adhere to traffic rules and conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
The sudden surge in tourist inflow has further compounded the perennial parking problem in Shimla, ASP Abhishek told PTI.
Two-day 'Severe Heatwave' Warning In Delhi-NCR
Residents of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to face severe heatwave conditions over the next two days, with the maximum temperature likely touching 45 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 28 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.
The Meteorological Department has issued an explicit warning for a "heatwave." In addition, strong surface winds are likely to prevail during the afternoon and evening hours. Additionally, humidity levels on May 27 are expected to range between a maximum of 40 per cent and a minimum of 25 per cent.
The department has warned that the heatwave conditions may be accompanied by strong and hot winds during the afternoon and evening.
Thereafter, on June 1, weather conditions are expected to return to near-normal. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 27 degrees Celsius.

Thunderstorms, Rain Likely In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next four days, even as temperatures are expected to rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius in many regions of the state.
According to the weather department, scattered places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive moderate rain with thunderstorm activity from Wednesday through May 30.
Isolated areas may also witness strong surface winds during the period due to changing atmospheric conditions over the region.

"Relief in heatwave conditions over the region is likely from May 29 due to a likely western disturbance along with a moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal due to the likely formation of a lower tropospheric east-west trough," the IMD said.
