- Samarth Singh was allegedly given VIP treatment inside Jabalpur district court premises before custody
- He was seen sitting inside District Judge’s courtroom before going to Bar Association chamber
- Samarth Singh withdrew anticipatory bail plea and attempted to surrender before being taken into custody
Shortly after Twisha Sharma's husband Samarth Singh's arrest in Jabalpur on Friday, allegations surfaced that he was being given VIP treatment inside the district court premises before being taken into custody.
Anurag Srivastava, counsel for Twisha Sharma's father Navnidhi Sharma, alleged that Samarth Singh was sitting inside Courtroom No 32, the courtroom of the District and Sessions Judge, shortly before he appeared before the media. According to Srivastava, the courtroom doors were shut while Samarth was inside.
“Under what authority was he allowed to sit in that room?” Srivastava questioned. He alleged, “This clearly shows the extent to which the judiciary is siding with him. He had come here to surrender, but by that time all the judges had already left. He was sitting inside the District Judge's chamber with the door locked. When I insisted that the door be opened, he fled from there and sat in the Bar Association's chamber.”
This adds weight to repeated allegation by Twisha Sharma's family members that Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, used their influence to delay action in the case.

The allegations are serious, particularly because a lookout notice had already been issued against Samarth Singh and a reward of Rs 30,000 had been announced for information leading to his capture. Twisha's family's lawyer alleged that despite this, Samarth moved around freely and was not treated like an accused wanted by the police.
The court premises witnessed high drama for nearly an hour on Friday evening after Samarth Singh arrived there, reportedly to surrender. He was seen wearing a face mask, sunglasses and cap and remained silent when the media tried to question him. According to those present, some people accompanying him allegedly created a commotion when reporters attempted to approach him.
Samarth's lawyer, Saurabh Sundar, told reporters that his client had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court and had decided to surrender before the court. He was taken into custody before the surrender process could conclude.

He was later handed over to Bhopal police and brought to the capital at around 2 am. He is currently being kept at Katara Hills police station and is expected to be produced before a Bhopal court after 10 am on Saturday.
The developments come at a time when the Madhya Pradesh government has moved court seeking rejection of the anticipatory bail plea filed by Giribala Singh.
In another significant courtroom development, Samarth Singh's legal team reportedly cited Hindu customs and rituals to seek custody of Twisha Sharma's body, arguing that it should be handed over to her husband. The court, however, rejected the plea.
Meanwhile, the Bar Council of India has suspended Samarth Singh's licence. During the suspension period, he will not be permitted to use the prefix “Advocate” before his name.
