A 19-year-old student was found hanging from a tree here on Friday evening, hours after the family of a schoolgirl lodged a complaint accusing him of assaulting and molesting her, police said on Saturday.
The boy studied in Class 12, they said.
Police said the girl's family had approached them earlier in the day, alleging that the boy had assaulted and misbehaved with the girl. A complaint was also made through Dial 112.
Later, he was found hanging from a tree in an orchard in a village. On receiving information, police, his family members and villagers reached the spot, while a forensic team collected evidence from the scene.
The student's father has named seven people in his complaint, alleging that they had come to his house, enquired about his son and left, and later killed him. The family has demanded action against all those named in the complaint.
Station House Officer Umed Singh said the boy had gone to his school on Friday and the girl's family had lodged the complaint against him earlier in the day. His body was subsequently recovered from the orchard.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and are investigating all aspects of the case, including the allegations made by both families, the SHO said.
