Two months on, but CBI still unable to find missing nurse Bhanwari Devi

New Delhi: It's been two months since the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi. The whereabouts of Bhanwari Devi, who is alleged to have been in a relationship with sacked Rajasthan Congress minister Mahipal Maderna, is under the subject of a CBI investigation, but so far few leads have emerged as to her disappearance. But for the first time CBI investigators now say they have a clear picture of what happened to this mother of three children. Investigators say she was lured by one gang, who first drove her around and then handed her over to another gang who killed and disposed of her body.

Investigators say the reasons for Bhanwari's disappearance is an incriminating CD through which she had allegedly threatened a politician, by saying she would make the contents of the CD public. Sources say the CD allegedly shows Bhanwari and the politician in a compromising position. However since this CD is untraceable, investigators say they cannot confirm whether it really features sacked Congress Minister Mahipal Maderna, as has been alleged.

As to what happened to Bhanwari investigators have arrested two key accused in the case Shahabuddin and Sohanlal. The duo have told police that Bhanwari reportedly left her home on September 1, to negotiate a deal for the CD. She was driven around by three men who are all under arrest. She was then handed over to another gang of five men at Osia area in the outskirts of Jodhpur. She was also shifted to a Scorpio from the Bolero. It was then that she became untraceable.

The arrested men have been unable to give the correct numberplate, so the car hasn't been found. The only thing they have confirmed to the police is that that the men who took her near Jodhpur were ordered to kill her.

Police sources say that Sahiram Bishnoi the man who allegedly masterminded this entire operation is still absconding. Bishnoi is believed to be close to Maderna and to another Congress MLA Malkan Singh. The CBI believes Bhanwari was in a long term relationship with Malkan Singh. Sources say that when Malkan's daughter got married on February 11, Bhanwari allegedly turned up there and created a scene. Malkan's sister and brother were also believed to be constantly in touch with Bhanwari and gave her money from time to time

Currently however the CBI has two alternate theories and two senior politicians, with apparent motives. They say they will only know which one is right when the man close to both of them Sahiram Bishnoi is arrested or if they find her CD. But so far because of lack of proof, these scenarios and possible motives for murder attributed to the politicians remain just theories.
