Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.

N Chandrasekaran will continue as the Chairman of Tata Sons till 2032, NDTV Profit has learned. The decision marks a break from the company's existing retirement policy, which direct that executives retire at the age of 65.

Chandrasekaran, who took over as Tata Sons Chairman in 2017, is currently serving a five-year term that was set to end in 2027, the year he would turn 65.

Now the trustees have cleared a third five-year executive term for Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons Chairman. He will be 70 by the time his tenure ends in 2032.

Tata Trusts has backed the continuation of leadership in key strategic areas.

Sources have told NDTV Profit that Chandrasekaran's extension was not a part of Friday's Tata Trusts meeting.

In other news, there is infighting in the Tata Trusts, the nonprofit and philanthropic organisation that collectively owns about 66 per cent of the equity in (and therefore controls) Tata Sons, the group's principal holding company.

The fight is over board appointments and governance issues.
