Vijay Delhi Visit Highlights: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was scheduled to meet Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Thursday, marking his second interaction with Rahul Gandhi since his swearing-in. A joint photo opportunity with Sonia Gandhi was also expected during the visit. However, the meeting has been postponed, and will likely take place next week, the sources said.
A day earlier, Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed key state issues, including the Mekedatu dam dispute, the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen and the Tamil invocation song row.
He also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, submitting a memorandum seeking priority funding for ports, national highways, railway projects and industrial corridors critical to the state's development.
During his meeting with the PM, Vijay pressed for immediate steps to secure the release of Tamil Nadu fishermen lodged in Sri Lankan prisons, along with their boats. So far in 2026, there have been 12 incidents of fishermen arrests, with 58 currently in custody and 266 boats seized.
In his discussions with Sitharaman, he also urged the Centre to establish Institutes of National Importance (INIs) in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay Delhi Visit Live: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Departs For First Official Delhi Visit
Following his assumption of office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay departed for Delhi on Tuesday for his first official visit.
He arrived at Chennai Airport to board a special flight to the national capital, where he is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers during the visit.
According to the sources, Tamil Nadu minister Aadhav Arjuna, along with other senior ministers, will also accompany Vijay to Delhi, where they will first visit the Tamil Nadu House in the national capital.
