A case has been officially registered at the Mudkhed Police Station in Nanded regarding the attack on former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Accused Jaspal Singh has been charged under the following sections:

• Section 307 (IPC): Attempt to murder
• Section 353 (IPC): Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty (Obstruction of official work)
• Section 4/25: Arms Act

Santosh kendre stood like a wall between the attacker and Sukhbir Singh Badal, even if it meant he sustained injuries himself. Kendre is a Police Inspector at the Special Protection Unit.

The surgery of former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was injured in an attack in Nanded, has been successfully completed, doctors said on Thursday evening.

According to doctors, he is now completely out of danger, and his condition is stable.

Sources indicated that Sukhbir Singh Badal could be discharged from the hospital tomorrow at 1:30 PM.

Jaspal Singh Aidhan, who attacked former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal with a kirpan at a Nanded gurudwara, hails from the Solapur Bazar area of Pune.

The 62-year-old Jaspal had been living there with his wife and daughter for several years.

However, according to locals, he had been performing religious service as a 'sevadar' (volunteer) at the Nanded gurudwara for the past two years.

President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Harmeet Singh Kalka, says, "I condemn this attack in the strongest terms... Regardless of political differences one might have with others, no one tolerates such acts inside a *Gurughar*, and I believe the entire Sikh community condemns this incident... If you have differences or grievances with politicians, you should express that anger through the ballot, and the time for the ballot is approaching... The Nihang Singhs must take responsibility for this and verify which faction the attacker belonged to; the head of that faction should be summoned to explain the procedures they follow for inducting members."

Akali Dal leader Daljeet Singh Cheema has demanded an independent investigation into the attack. He told NDTV that there could be a deep conspiracy behind the incident.

Cheema also said that Sukhbir Singh Badal was previously targeted at the Golden Temple, and the Punjab Police failed to carry out a thorough investigation in that case.

He accused the Congress and AAP of trying to do politics over the incident. According to him, their tweets clearly showed what message they wanted to give and whom they wanted to support.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj strongly condemned the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji in Nanded. He said such incidents violate the sanctity of gurudwaras and harm the Sikh community's image, adding that a true Sikh could never attack a devotee who had come to pay obeisance.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly condemned the attack on SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal near Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji in Nanded. He called the incident "deeply unfortunate" and said an attack on a devotee at a sacred Sikh shrine hurts Sikh sentiments. Dhami demanded an impartial probe to identify the attacker and any forces behind the incident.

"The Government of India should order a CBI inquiry into this... Narain Chaura is an individual trained by the ISI, and the Punjab Police possess concrete evidence regarding him... The Chief Minister didn't even condemn that incident (2024 attack on Badal outside the Golden Temple). SP Harpal Randhawa is still stationed in Amritsar today... Because the previous incident wasn't investigated properly, another incident has occurred today... Prime Minister Narendra Modi inquired about Sukhbir Singh Badal's health in a phone conversation with his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, according to sources.

Nanded Collector has confirmed minor hand injuries to Sukhbir Singh Badal and one security personnel, assuring that both of them are stable and out of danger. Badal suffered a 4-5 cm wound on his right hand. The attack took place while returning from Mata Sahib Gurdwara in Mugat.

The Nanded Collector said it was a private family visit, but Z security was deployed.

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema has reacted to the attack on party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Cheema stated that Sukhbir Badal had previously been attacked at Sri Darbar Sahib, and it remains to be seen which forces are behind this incident.

He remarked that had the earlier incident been properly investigated, this attack would not have occurred.

"Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal was on a tour of Nanded district. Today, August 13, 2026, at around 1:50 PM, after completing his darshan at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Deva Ji, village Muga, Taluka Mudkhed, a Sikh sevadari attacked him with a dagger, injuring him.

SPU Police Inspector Santosh Kendre, who was accompanying him and attempted to protect him, also sustained an injury to his hand.

Both are undergoing treatment at Yashosai Hospital, Nanded, and their condition is reported to be good.

The sevadari has been taken into police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway."

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed an investigation into the motive behind the attack.

The Chief Minister also spoke to Sukhbir Singh Badal over the phone, assuring him that the state government would provide all necessary assistance and that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.

The motive behind the attack is not yet clear.

Former Union Minister Of State Ravneet Singh Bittu on Thursday condemned the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, calling the attempt "cowardly" and a "direct threat" to the peace and security of Punjab.

The attacker is a sevadar (volunteer), Nanded Superintendent of Police tells NDTV. "He has been living in Nanded for two years. We are currently verifying his name. We are questioning him to determine the motive behind the attack," he says.

Nihang Jaspal Singh attacked Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal at Hazur Sahib Gurdwara in Nanded.

According to Nanded SP Rohan Neelabh, Jaspal Singh had been working at the gurdwara for the past two years.

The suspect who attacked Sukhbir Badal was a Nihang Sikh associated with the same gurudwara where the attack took place, said sources. He has been arrested, and is being questioning, they added. Badal sustained an injury to his left hand and walked to the hospital himself for treatment.

A security official was injured in the attack on Sukhbir Badal near a gurdwara in Nanded. Inspector Santosh Kendre was deployed on special security duty. He sustained injuries in the attack.

Sukhbir Badal has been attacked yet again, two years after an attempt to assassinate him was made while he was serving his penance at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

The latest attack, which took place on Thursday, was reported from Nanded in Maharashtra. The Akali Dal chief was attacked during a visit to a gurudwara in the city. The 64-year-old leader has suffered an injury on his hand in the Nanded attack, and has been rushed to a hospital.

In 2024, Badal, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, was performing 'sewadar duties' after the Akal Takht pronounced the 'tankhah' (religious punishment) for him and several other Akali Dal leaders for "mistakes" committed during the party's rule in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.

In the video from the 2024 attack, a man was seen approaching Badal - the Akali leader had his leg in a cast and was sitting in a wheelchair at the entrance of the golden gate with a spear in one hand - who then pulled out a gun. The attacker tried to stab Sukhbir Singh Badal in the stomach, sources said, adding that the security personnel's presence of mind helped prevent it.

Sources from the Akali Dal have said that Sukhbir Singh Badal is fine, stable, and getting stitches on his hand at the hospital.

A Nihang Sikh, who was roaming around Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, attacked him in Maharashtra's Nanded with a kirpan, sources said.

According to sources, a single man was behind the attack.
