New Delhi: Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan has alleged that his family has been ignored and "boycotted" for years by their home state Madhya Pradesh.

He accused the state government of not honouring the memory of his father, Ustaf Haafiz Ali Khan, on his death anniversary on Sunday.

"Today is the 42nd death anniversary of my father Guru Ustad Haafiz Ali Khan Saheb. In these 42 years, Madhya Pradesh's cultural department has not offered any tribute or homage to the legendary sarod guru of Gwalior. Our family is ignored and boycotted by Madhya Pradesh's cultural department," Mr Khan, 69, was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India.

He said he felt disappointed and "humiliated" that though he and his sons were invited to play at various prestigious events, including the recent Nobel Peace Prize ceremony at Oslo, they had never been invited by the Madhya Pradesh cultural department to perform even in his hometown Gwalior for the Tansen Music Festival.

"It is really sad that our whole family has been boycotted. Gwalior and Sarod Ghar are my birth place. This is a very sad thing in the land of Tansen. He is our inspiration and Guru Gharana known as Senia Gharana," said the renowned musician.

Mr Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan performed the "Raga for peace" at the Nobel ceremony, which saw Indian activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistani teen Malala Yousafzai sharing the big prize.
