RLD Supporters Demand Charan Singh Memorial in New Delhi

RLD Supporters placed the bust of Choudhary Charan Singh on a table in the lawns of the bungalow

New Delhi: Just days after the water and power supply to former Union cabinet minister Ajit Singh's 12 Tughlaq Road residence in New Delhi were snapped for over-staying, leaders of farmers' unions including some from his party, the Rashtriya Lok Dal, made fresh demands to convert the bungalow into a memorial to former Prime Minister and Ajit Singh's father, Choudhary Charan Singh.

All India general secretary of the RLD Trilok Tyagi told NDTV, "When there can be memorials to Kashiram (of the BSP) and Jagjivan Ram (Dalit leader and father of former speaker Meira Kumar), then why can't there be a memorial in the name of a great leader who worked for the uplift of farmers? This is the place he lived in when he was PM and this is where he breathed his last. People are emotionally attached to this place."

Ajit Singh's supporters say he has moved out of the house and refute allegations that this is an attempt to encroach on the bungalow.

Earlier on Monday, supporters placed the bust of Choudhary Charan Singh on a table in the lawns of the bungalow and vowed to work towards making the address a memorial.
