A group of ministers, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, will meet on Thursday afternoon to discuss Air India's financial affairs, restructuring and a turnaround plan.
This meeting comes a day after the AI board made it public that the airline posted an accumulated loss of Rs 5,548.26 crore in 2008-09.
The airline's earning went down from Rs.15,252 crore last year to Rs. 13479 crore this year.
Passenger load too saw a decline. Last year, Air India could sell about 64 per cent of its seats in every flight. This year, passenger load has dropped to 59.5 per flight.
The airline saw a drop of nearly 3 million passengers in a year. Last year, 13.21 million flew Air India, but this year, only 10.36 million passengers chose the airline.
