Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior ministers and BJP's office bearers
At a dinner hosted by him for all Union Ministers belonging to the BJP and party office-bearers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed for better government-party coordination.
"Ministers are to be entrusted with organisational responsibilities in the coming round of assembly polls,'' Union Information and Broadcasting, and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters after the dinner, held at the party's national headquarters tonight.
Assembly elections to states such as Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be held later this year. The Prime Minister has asked the party to approach these elections seriously. An improved performance in these states, all of which are ruled by the opposition parties, will have a direct impact on the BJP's strength in the Rajya Sabha, where it is in a minority.
In the Lok Sabha polls, the party put up an impressive show in all these states.
The Prime Minister, according to Mr Javadekar, emphasised on better government-party coordination. "He asked each minister to be present in the party headquarters at least once a month. One minister will be present in the party office everyday,'' he said.
The idea behind the exercise, BJP sources said, was to facilitate better interaction between the ministers and party workers.
"Ministers will get a first-hand account of problems faced by the party workers. They will be asked to address the grievances of these workers,'' the sources pointed out.
