Orissa techie killed in road accident in Florida

Washington: A 31-year-old software engineer from Orissa, who came to the US in 2001, died in a road accident in Florida, a local community organisation said on Wednesday.

Amitabh Das, who hailed from Orissa, died in the accident that is reported to have occurred on the morning of August 7 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Amitabh, a graduate from College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, came to the US in 2001 as an Infosys employee and later switched to Techni Source Company.

Amitabh is single and survived by father Pratap Kishore, mother Iva Rani and brother Debasis Das, all of whom reside in Orissa.

"A team of volunteers and Amitabh's friends Sandeep, Rajesh and Abishek are helping with the situation. Amitabh's family from Orissa requested us to help with the proceedings," said Prasad Thotakura, general secretary of the Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC).

"I spoke with Consul General of India, Houston officials to speed up the process who are ready to help as soon as they get all documents from Florida," he said.

The organisation said it was arranging to send the body of the deceased to his parents by end of this week.

"We express our deepest condolences to the Amitabh's family," he said.
