Naxalite killed in Jharkhand encounter

Ranchi: A Naxalite was killed on Sunday and three others were arrested after an encounter with the security forces near Jonha, about 35 km from Ranchi, a senior police officer said.

Following a tip-off that a group of Naxalites were about to slip into Bengal's Purulia district, a police team reached the spot and began a gunfire with the Naxalites, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Praveen Kumar, told newsmen here.

"Four Naxalites were hit by bullets. One body has been found," he said adding that others fled. The police, however, were successful to nab three of Naxalites, he said.

Three rifles and cartridges were seized from the spot.

The Naxalites were said to be attached to Maoist Kundan Pahan group, believed to have beheaded Inspector Francis Induwar on October 6.
